For many people, signs and symptoms are one and the same thing. In reality, there is a basic difference which is not more than a thin red line. In women, number of eggs stored in ovaries is finite. Two hormones, estrogen and progesterone, are also produced in ovaries which take care of the whole process of ovulation. When ovaries stop producing eggs, it is considered that the stage of menopause is attained. Since estrogen and progesterone are also produced in ovaries, so, there production suffers as well. Because of a change in hormonal level, women start to experience certain symptoms and signs.

A good example of symptom is irregular periods. Testosterone is the hormone responsible for hair growth which is balanced by estrogen. With a decrease in estrogen level, testosterone starts to take over, resulting in hair growth.
  • Dry mouth along with other oral problems can be considered as menopause sign.
  • Breast tenderness along with a change in skin can also be seen by physicians to find the severity of your problem.
  • Palpitation is another sign of menopause that helps physicians to understand the reason behind the symptoms described by you.
  • Weight gain, especially around the waist, is a common sign of menopause and that's what makes physician understand that you are going to say good bye to your menstrual period.
  • The combination of signs and symptoms helps to determine the remedies of menopause. So, it is a good idea to get in touch with your physician soon after experiencing first symptoms of menopause.
